Special - Fairies

You will stumble across many fairies throughout your quest. They will aid you in many ways - they will recover your life energy and if you keep them bottled, when you die they will bring you back to life. There are, however, 6 very important fairies. You will know when you are seeing one because the fairy will be very large. The 6 fairies are: the Fairy of Power, the Fairy of Wisdom, the Fairy of Courage and 3 other fairies that will each teach you a unique magic spell. I will list them in the order that I discovered them.

Fairy of Power - After you defeat Dodongo's Cavern and find the Bombs, you will be told to go up to the summit of Death Mountain. It's a pain - you've got to blow huge rocks out of your path with bombs, you have to dodge boulders that rain down on you, and you'll have to climb some spider-infested walls. When you get to the top, you'll see an entrance to a cave. That leads down into the Death Mountain Crater (which you should not yet enter). You will, however, see a strange-looking rock formation in the wall a little to the left of the cave. Place a bomb in front of this formation, and it will reveal another cave with its explosion. Enter the cave, and walk up to the golden Triforce crest. Stand on the crest and play Zelda's Lullaby (you'll have to play this song on every crest every time you enter a Great Fairy Fountain). The Great Fairy who appears will teach you a spinning slash technique. To use this technique will require magic, so you'll start out with a good supply of magic power (the green bar).

Fairy of Din's Fire - The Fairy of Power tells you to drop in on a friend of hers in Hyrule Castle. Go back into Hyrule Castle and sneak over the gates again. This time, instead of heading off to the castle, walk to the right where you will see a sign that says something like "dead-end" in front of a boulder. Set off a bomb near the boulder and it will disintegrate, revealing a small hole behind where it stood before. Crawl through the hole, enter the Great Fairy Fountain, play Zelda's Lullaby and receive the magic. You can use this magic to light torches where this is not other source of light, to burn through some ice and to burn some wood that might be found in some dungeonsIt can also be used as a powerful method of attack. Keep in mind that all magic spells consume considerable magic power.

Fairy of Farore's Wind - This fairy is located near the area about Jabu-Jabu (the gigantic fish which you must enter to find King Zora's daughter). There will be an area covered with boulders. Detonate bombs near these boulders to blow them up. Soon, they will reveal the entrance to a cave. The cave is a Great Fairy Fountain. This fairy will give you Farore's Wind. This magic is used mainly for warping around dungeons. I did not find it very useful. You, however, may find good uses of it.

Fairy of Wisdom - This fairy is located in the Death Mountain Crater. You may notice some rocks blocking a passage here - but your bombs could not destroy the rocks. After you retrieve the Megaton Hammer from the Fire Temple, use the hammer to break these rocks. Walk through this passage to a Great Fairy Fountain. This fairy will double your magic power (the green bar will double in length).

Fairy of Naryu's Love - You will find this fairy by the Sand Temple. After you learn the song to warp here (see the "Ocarina Songs" section for more information on this), search the area around the Sand Temple. You will see 2 palm trees near the large rocky wall which is east of the Sand Temple. Behind those palm trees, you will notice a large crack in the wall. Detonate a bomb in this area, and a cave will be revealed. Enter the cave and you will be in a Great Fairy Fountain. This fairy will teach you Naryu's Love - a spell which protects you from harm for a short period of time.

Fairy of Courage - This is the very last fairy that I discovered. There is a monstrous black pillar that is blocking the entrance to the cave which house this Great Fairy Fountain. The pillar is near the entrance to Ganondorf's Castle - it's off to the right whereas the castle entrance is off to the left. You cannot remove this pillar without first obtaining the Golden Gauntlets from inside Ganondorf's Castle. After you have obtained these useful items, leave the castle and lift up the black pillar. This fairy will increase your protection - she will, in fact, double it. I found that this was the most useful gift given by any of the fairies.
